Biography
Childhood
Myrinne was one of two children born into the mixed human-elven town of Carmost in the year 1293, and the second child born to Yuán Qigang and Kyla Haley. As births were often uncommon in Carmost, her birth alongside Vin's were a cause of much joy and celebration for everyone around them. No celebration, however, was greater than the one her maternal grandfather held upon her birth, as the night before he had been given a vision by the god Sylfaer himself that declared Myrinne to be his successor and thus inheritor of the Sword of Sylfaer, a relic that had been protected by the Haley line for centuries.
This, of course, was met with much annoyance by her mother, who felt that such news would have been better left to when Myrinne was actually old enough to comprehend it and not when she still a babe at her mother's breast. Regardless, they Haleys and the Yuáns were both thrilled about doting upon the newest member of their families, and Myrinne experienced a generally happy childhood (even if it was, to a degree, colored by the legacy she was set to inherit). She was raised alongside Vin Amastacia, the child of family friends of the Haley-Yuáns, which would continue well into their adolescence and early adulthood.
Adolescence
For a large portion of her time growing up in Carmost, the person whom Myrinne most looked up to was her brother Damon. Always patient and good-humored in the face of her tantrums and the other general woes that come from growing up (and from having the weight of the world on your future), he was the one person she knew she could always turn to for advice. Which is why his sudden death at the hands of New Harmonian cultists hiding out in the forests where he helped gather herbs for their father's clinic was a deep wound on her heart.
That would not be the only time death stalked Myrinne's life, however, as a few short years after Damon's death she would finally perform the rite to inherit the Sword of Sylfaer... and would then attempt to use it to bring down justice and vengeance on the New Harmonians. Having received information on the location of their local hideaway, she took the blade and charged in alone... only to be struck down when their leader, Serafina Dantalion, made an unexpected appearance. Myrinne would have died that day, had it not been for Vin following after her and quickly pulling her away to escape. Though as she would later learn, she had been killed in that fight, her heart having been stopped dead by Serafina's lightning. Only through Vin's intervention and plea to Saphiris was she granted a temporary boon of life to see her duty completed. After this, Myrinne would swear to train and become a master of the blade so that one day, for certain, she could put an end to Serafina and the rest of New Harmonia.
Journey's Start
Myrinne's search for a teacher would take her and Vin eastward, towards the Argate Peaks. Along the way, the two friends would become separated during an ambush by New Harmonians, with Myrinne escaping while the group spirited Vin away to their nearby hideout.
Having learned from her previous deadly encounter, Myrinne decided instead of charging recklessly into the enemy's hands she would instead collect information and allies. By a great fortune, she found the latter in the form of Calum and Rosalie, who were already planning their own raid on the base where Aquaries had been taken by Kazimir Drosta. With her previous experience with New Harmonians, Myrinne was able to successfully aid them in this endeavour and rescue both Aquaries and Vin.
Notes
- Myrinne dyes her hair with a simple hedge magic glamour spell.
- She likes to doll herself up, but when it comes to fashion she tends to keep things relatively practical and won't wear any dresses or skirts that might inhibit her ability to run.
- She's actually terrified of thunder and lightning due to her initial encounter with Serafina, and sees defeating Serafina as a means to overcome this phobia.
- She is the first and so far only wielder of sound magic, having invented this variant of wind magic herself.
- While the playful side of her personality is genuine, the vapid side is not--its a cover for her own deep insecurities about the expectations placed upon her as the next Sage of Anemoi.
